Intentions for a Season of Thanksgiving

As Thanksgiving draws near, I am reminded how important the spiritual practice of gratitude is in my journey.

It is so easy to be preoccupied with all the cares of the world and my own personal challenges, that I find it essential to intentionally slow down and appreciate the good my life. This year, I decided that I would focus my efforts around gratitude as we move toward Thanksgiving.

Here are the intentions I have set, each of which is accompanied by the quote I am reflecting on as part of that intention:

We think we have to do something...or something has to be done in order for us to be grateful, when gratitude is a state of being.
— Iyanla Vanzant

I give gratitude for my existence and the existence of all life.

Let gratitude be the pillow upon which you kneel to say your nightly prayer.
— Maya Angelou

I position myself in a posture of gratitude and as my foundation of prayer.

At some point the world’s beauty becomes enough. You don’t need to photograph, paint or even remember it. It is enough.
— Toni Morrison

All that I am and all that exists around me is enough.

Additionally, I am using this beautiful song titled “Give Thanks” by India Arie during my prayer time.

I hope you find that some of these resonate with or inspire within your personal spiritual practice.
